Elma Stanley Dowdy Business Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Mrs. Dowdy established this scholarship as a leadership gift to support Business Education. As a 1947 Radford College graduate in Business Education, Mrs. Dowdy worked as Controller for Michael Enterprises in Washington D.C. She was an active alumna and served on numerous fundraising volunteer committees for the University. Mrs. Dowdy was a member of The Society of 1910 and served the Radford University National Alumni Association as an Executive Council Member and as the Washington D.C. Area Alumni Chapter President. She received the RU Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. Mrs. Dowdy established several other scholarships to benefit Radford University students. Mrs. Dowdy passed away in 2007 with RU in her estate plans, which included gifts to four scholarships in her name.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Must be a full-time undergraduate/graduate student.
  • Must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.7, 3.0 within major.
  • Award renewable if award recipient maintains required GPAs. Must reapply to be considered.
  • Must not be, nor have been, on 20 or more weeks of disciplinary probation or suspension from any institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the College of Business and Economics.
