Dr. Preston L. Durrill Scholarship in Chemistry

Scholarship Information

In 2010 the Radford University Department of Chemistry created this scholarship in honor of Dr. Preston Durrill. Dr. Durrill was a retired RU Chemistry Professor. He began working at Radford University in 1965 while pursuing his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.

He planned to return to work as a chemist for Exxon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; however, he fell in love with the area and continued to teach at RU for 37 years, retiring in 2002. He was Dean of the Graduate College from 1972 to 1983 and traveled Southwest Virginia extensively on recruiting and outreach efforts before returning to teaching chemistry in 1983.

Dr. Preston has made a positive impact on many students lives.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicants must be a full-time chemistry major.
